  • One million hectares (2.5 million acres) from 2.2 million planted crops have been destroyed.
  • Zambia’s malnutrition rates remain among the highest in the world. Before declaration of disaster, 48% of people (17.4million) in Zambia were unable to meet their minimum calorie requirements and 35% of children are stunted. 
  • Zambia has recorded nearly 700 deaths and 20,000 infections of cholera outbreak since October 2023 – making the country an epicentre of the outbreak in 2024 in southern Africa. 
  • Between October 2023 and March 2024, 2.04 million people or 23 percent of the analyzed population were already classified in crisis levels of food insecurity or worse (IPC Phase 3 or above) and required urgent humanitarian action to reduce food gaps, protect and restore livelihood and prevent acute malnutrition.
