SITUATION OVERVIEW
Gaza Province has experienced severe flooding following prolonged heavy rains during the 2025/2026 rainy season, resulting in widespread displacement, destruction of homes, damage to roads, schools, health facilities, and disruption of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) services.
Reports indicate that over 700,000 people were affected nationally, with Gaza Province among the hardest hit areas. Flooding contaminated water sources, damaged sanitation infrastructure, and increased the risk of cholera and other waterborne diseases, particularly in overcrowded accommodation centres and flood-affected communities.
In response, Oxfam and partners implemented emergency WASH interventions targeting affected communities in districts including Mapai, Massangena, Mabalane, Chókwè, and surrounding flood-affected areas. The response included distribution of WASH Non-Food Item (NFI) kits, hygiene promotion campaigns, household water treatment awareness, rehabilitation of damaged water and sanitation systems, construction and rehabilitation of latrines at health facilities and schools, and training of Community Health Volunteers (CHVs) and local partners on hygiene promotion, cholera prevention, safeguarding, accountability, and emergency WASH standards.
