Oxfam in Malawi and the Women’s Legal Resources Centre (WOLREC) are implementing the Promoting Gender Transformative and Youth Inclusive Democracy in Malawi project to enhance the meaningful inclusion and participation of women, youth, and marginalized groups in political processes and decision-making structures. The project is part of the European Union (EU) - Boma Lathu Programme-Democratic Governance 2021-2027 designed to enhance positive change on the overall outlook of democracy in the country. The project is being implemented in Rumphi, Mzimba, Dedza, Salima, Machinga, Mulanje, and Nsanje, and national level interventions.
Oxfam in Malawi and the Centre for Civil Society Strengthening (CCSS) with financial support from the Embassy of Iceland are also implementing the Liu la Amai Mu Ndale (Amplifying Women’s Political Voice) Project in Mangochi and Nkhotakota districts, and national level interventions. The project is promoting meaningful participation of women leaders in political and decision-making processes in the run up to the 2025 General Elections. The initiative will enhance the political representation of women and young women in elected positions at national and local levels and increase their influence and active participation in political parties’ operations in the country.
As part of its Media Programming, Oxfam and partners collaborated with Local media House Nation Publications Limited to produce a Newsletter in two local languages, Chichewa and Tumbuka to reach more people with information on the various electoral processes currently underway in Malawi, and project impact this far.
